Gustharts sell those things, I treid the bottle jack thing once, it was hard work even with a six ton jack, there's no substitute for a proper winch. Although up the tree maybe that thing is a good idea.

you need a 20 ton squat jack for best results,several years ago we got a 30 plus metre completly dead african mahogany to go over opposite lean with one ,didnt fancy whacking wedges in,when it hit i reckon wood flew 50 metres or so

I got one back in 06, we don't really use all that often espeicially since one of the team shortened it by half an inch at the tip, whilst it was in the back cut

 

Think it was about 80 quid.

but in half the time you could of cut all the pegs off and just step cut and chucked that

or even from the looks of that piece you could of pushed it over

Why do you old guard hate pegs so much?

Very dead wood, not very sappy, wasn't playing the game.

 

Speed is rarely, almost never in fact, an over ridding factor for our team.

Safety and the tools and techniques to aid a decision/situation, whether that be rattle wedge, block driver or Mewp, is.

I think it's brilliant the way we look for new stuff all the time. I think it's called innovation?
