I think this is an abandoned clutch of pheasant eggs.

Might not be abandoned. Have a look in a few days and see if there's any more. They don't start incubating until they've laid all they're going to.

Young pine marten I happened across walking the dog today.

I heard a hissing and snarling about 20 meters off the track at the base of a tree.

 

Two young cubs clumsily made their escape up the tree, this one sort of snookered itself  and stopped to  watch me from 20 ft up.

Brilliant walk today on some of our local Limestone pavements, we even found a slow worm so I let the kids have a hold and experience these great little creatures. I had one as a pet as a kid. They are great and it was good to see one in its natural habitat. They are protected in the UK but you can handle them. my little lad was made up. We then put it back where we found it and watched as it blended in with its surroundings and disappeared. Brilliant.

Lucky it did not " shoot " its tail to get away .

It was really chilled, we were very gentle with it and it was so good for the kids to get close to this brilliant creature. I love them.
