The next step from prussic

Evening all, i know this subject has been covered quite a bit.....

PLease don't take what i say out of context when i say "i want to speed my climbing up"

I do want to speed the climbing up but i also want to have less friction etc and possibly self tending etc.... i consider prussic to be good and adequate for most stuff but on some tree's i know there's easier setups to have.

I usually have a pulley at my anchor point if its a good sized tree but this is usually fixed..... i'm going to have to look at a retreivable one....

what i'm thinking of is what friction hitch/setup to go for

i like the look of the hitch climber, you can also attatch the saw to the centre hole Setup is not too dear on the pocket

Or using the pinto and a friction hitchalso quite cheap

Or using a spiderjack/lockjack of which i have never used or seen..... more expensive but if i were to be more efficient when ive got used to it, it would outweigh the cost.....

any advice on which to go for?? got a slack'ish week next week so thought i could order up and get used to something new

cheers for any input

thanks chris

ive been climbing a long long time, I like my prusik and cambium saver combo, but just recently I am very interested in the lockjack sport, and the new art adjustable cabium saver, check them out and see what you think.

I reckon this combo may keep me ahead in the rapid stakes for another decade

Problem with the lock jack spider jack as the guy in the smooth climbing vid pointed out most European trees we work on are or have a very closed canopy unlike big eucalyptus, have found with the lock jack on reductions it loses it's smoothness completly unless the rope can hang directly below with out obstruction, personally have found the vt the best all rounder but tempted to give the spider jack a go as I'm getting bored and fancy relearning my climbing but even so after the vt I would never ever go back to the prussic !

lockjack all the way buddy, although i do use my hitch climber often now as not had it long, but i grew up with pulley hitches. then about 7 years ago i bought my lockjack its everything i need and more. only seen videos on the spiderjack so can't comment but they do lookcool to use.

Matty i keep a crab and a pulley (currently my hitchclimber pulley) for closed canopy trees and clip it onto the bridge below my spiderjack or lockjack and it seems to work very well. Although i think i'll never be a good as joe.

Well I'm a newbie climber, been going about 6 months now. Tried out my new hitchclimber today after having used prussik loops, and although it's going to take me a little while to get used to, in the long run it's going to be so much more quicker. Branch walking it was more responsive, although my pace is nowhere near quick enough, it did seem a better system. I'd recommend giving it a go if you want to move on from prussiks, I've been offered a go on a spiderjack but I don't trust myself enough for that yet!
