in actual fact no i dont take the work , for instance this week we were asked in to take down 2 large Monterey Cypress for anothe tree firm , at the end of the job the land owner asked for my advivce and recomendations on a sweet chestnut - i willingly gave my recomendations and explained that the tree has a tpo and will need a report wrighting to go in with the planning app , the customer then asks for my card so that they can give me a call , my reply was NO , and explained that they would need to ask the company whos job it is . i then made my client aware of the situation and made it clear that i would not be interested in dooing the dirty .

My previous post was meant to explain that in many cases the land owner is not daft and in many cases will work out when their contracor is using subbies and often will ask themselves if they are paing to much . my job it to go in and get the work done. but im certsinly not going to hide that im not part of or the same company that won the job .

just thought I'd add my two pennies, started contracting in Jan. at £130 a day, but it seems in london the daily rate is about £150, so am putting my rate up to £140 as of next week with a view to sneaking up to £150 once I've got a few more companies using me.

Thats good and very honorable, and what I would do and waht I would expect from those workign for me.

BUT, this is one of the things that makes a sub contractor a real subcontractor. It means after you have finished your "contracted" job you COULD go and do another next door without refering them back to your main contractor/boss/person that hired you in.

Not saying we should all start doing this, if we did we would run out of "subbie" work pretty quick, but just wanted to mention that this is exactly what the IR and insurance comapnies consider a "sub contractor" to be able and free to do, and not being free and able to do this means that the "subbie" is not a true sub contractor.

The rules are there to be bent!
