I think that regardless of what anyone 'thinks' or what anybody's preferred method of work is, I need to be able to back up my decisions with industry best practice and documentation and it seems I may be pinned to the post!

I had a pair or two when i first got my basic ticket, left over from having to wear them on the course......I ended up having a pee one day and dropped them from under my arm and pee-ed on them...never bothered with them again for reasons stated above. I use those builders type things now with the rubber dipped palms and fingers- like most people seem to TBH.

Its not a legal requirement.

 

edit. Just read your post, and as far as best practice goes, yes it is a requirement i believe.

Again, these are for guidance and are not legal requirements. I may be being a bit pedantic (anal? ) but there is a difference there.

you only have to wear gloves whilst being trained once you are certificated its your choice afterwards, i was told this by a assessor and trainer if this helps

Me too . But the original question was what's the legal requirement, which is not the same as best practise.

from what i understand, chain saw gloves are an 'old rule' as HF says, but its very hard to change that 'law' and the new HAVS supersedes this, so a good fitting, gripy glove that keeps your pinkeys warm is better than cold slipy chain saw glove. so yes you should wear gloves but not necessarily chain saw gloves!!!
