Nasty chipper accident

Just came across this little news story whilst searching for used chippers...not good!

thats a perfect reason why not to use your foot to shov stuff into a chipper!, if you cant reach, use a branch to. He is EXTREMELY lucky he wasnt killed!

Never heard of using a shove stick? I know we should all be wishing this guy the best at the moment but some people just never learn. This was predictably avoidable.

Whilst I would not wish this type of incident on anyone - we have all seen a lump of hard oak go through a chipper, why risk your own limbs?

 

If I'm showing someone around a chipper I always, always point out the danger zones, crush zones and the likely trip/slip hazards associated with the infeed area. I always point out that reaching into a chipper which is feeding in is dangerous and foolhardy, I always bang on about the use of a "push stick" too.

YOU DO NOT GROW BACK! Why do it, why reach in?

I have seen someone try and push brash in with, and this is in actual order it happened, a rake, then a metal fork and finally their boot, needless to say they got a word in their ear. and not long after marching cards

this guy has ruined his life......regardless of what he was doing wrong(and its pretty easy to work it out without speculating), the comments above...particularly the one i quoted are extremely inappropriate and offensive.

I was told about this incident pretty much straight after it happened by my friend who's mate is the guy who owns the chipper, he apparently turned away to take a call when he turned back the guy was on his way through, he quickly stopped the machine and saved the poor guy from a horrible death.
