The PTO (540/1000) can have starter interlocks as can the high speed gearbox mounted “fast” PTO, so if any of them are partly engaged it will stop things being started off the key.

 

With respect to the PTO interlocks there is a fuse for it, if it blows or has a bad connection it will stop things starting off the key too and will light up the relevant PTO stub icon warning light on the dash (if the bulb is working) as if the PTO is permanently engaged.

 

So make sure all PTO’s are in the off/disengaged/neutral position, check fuses and as others have said check the clutch pedal start interlock switch is working.

tomorrow I will struggle through the snow to give it another go, personally I favour the clutch cutout swich theory, but don't see why it would fail just when I stalled the vehicle.

The starter is not partially engaged can you turn the engine with socket normally you can engage gear and rock veh but they are a bit big.

PTO Is engaged, was running the crane on the back whilst waiting for the battery to charge. Checked the button, it depresses all the way, and the truck had been running, (until I stalled it 8() It's driving me nuts!, plus its a long slog through the snow to keep trying things!

 

Any suggestions very welcome, or does anyone want to come and collect the Bxx**Y thing!

 

The engine will NOT start when the PTO is engaged, take the PTO out of gear and it should start.

Engine was running, battery fully charged, all sweet and happy. Then whilst I was trying to rock the truck out of the ice I stalled the engine. Now I get no response to the key.

 

No chance of getting a pro out to the vehicle where it is now, too far, and way too hard to get to.

to start it by 'shorting' across the starter motor you need to find the big wire on the starter that comes straight from the battery, you need to take a live feed from this and touch the small wire that is on the starter solenoid ( a small cylinder bolted to the main starter) be very careful when you do this, make sure it is out of gear and hands, clothing etc is no where near fan!! you will get some small sparks as you join the two, an old screwdriver is good for this!! how cold is it in norway at the moment??
