How is it a big can of worms. If you earn money over and above your salary you need to pay tax on it, if the amount you earn is over the NI threshold you pay that aswell.

This is the case but obviously anyone earning a second income will be keen to reduce their 'taxable' earnings- i.e sell logs for cash- this i suppose is only human nature

I think if the poor guy who started the thread wants to make sum beer money "on the side,or not" then fair play to him. I know i didn't get to where i am by doing everything 100% by the book and i think whoever says they have is a lier. But still its prob not a good ideal to announce it on the web lol

if you have a straight accountant then you will be paying full tax ! best get an accountant who knows all the loop holes, then you wont be paying full tax to support all of this countrys free loaders or the eton toffs! if you can make a bit fiddle then fair enough, if this upsets some people cos they think you are taking there work then that is the way of the world....

To answer your original question, if you're happy & satisfied that you can make £5500 over 52 weeks & not have to pay extra tax, then I'd say a "good" amount to make is £105.77 a week. Any more & according to your sources you'll have to pay more tax.
