how much is a good amount to make each week?

Just a quick question regarding sales of firewood on the side. I am employed full time, but sell firewood on the side, how much is a good amount to be making each week on the side? Obviously the more the better, but I have just had a customer ring me regarding an add I placed for unseasoned firewood. He wants it to store for next year. He said he would want 4 tonne bags every two months. My eyes lit up, well, my tabs did! I'm selling it quite cheap due to it being unseasoned, probably £35 or £40 a bag. I have a few other customers and I am probably averaging £30 a week at the moment, with this new customer I would be making around £50 a week. That's about a 1/5 of my weekly take home so I'm quite happy with it. Does it sound good to you or should I be making more? I quite like the idea of selling unseaeoned as I haven't got it all over the yard/back garden until next year.

A tonne bag is 3/4m3?

 

I suppose it all depends on how much you could get for it seasoned. If you can double your money on each tonne just for leaving it in your yard for 4 months then it makes all your hard work more worth while. But if your only going to get £50 for seasoned then the quick turn around makes more sense...

 

I am going to be aiming to sell 4 or 5 cubes a week, if i can do more great. So i am hoping for £400 - £500 a week.

is that profit or before the deductions of income tax and class 2 national insurance contributions?

 

Remember you have to take into consideration the running costs and wear and tear on equiptment.

Everything is sorted from my other job, this is just a side line for the winter.

Everything is not sorted from your other job, if you are selling firewood you should be filling in a tax return each year and paying tax and NI on your profits.

 

A good amount to make each week is £1,000,000 but that is quite hard, especially from firewood. If £50 a week means a lot to you then that is a good amount.

I work full time and Do jobs on the side told the tax man and as long as it does not go over five and half grand a year no extra tax need be paid . Don't get it my self as if I did over time they would tax it

Are you saying that you are running a technically illegal sideline and paying no tax or NI contributions from your profits on an open internet forum?

 

I wouldnt be prepared to comment on 'how much' you should be making per week 'on the side' as you shouldn't make anything on the side at all, it should be legitimate additional earnings.
