pre 97 licence

Hi all, as a youngen I was just wondering if anyone would turn down a worker just because they don't have a pre/97 licence. I understand the benifits of having one, but it seems a bit unfair for someone of my age trying to get into the game as i've seen a few jobs advertised stating that a pre97 licence is an advantage?? :confused1:

Many Thanks Ollie

Is it that unfair? There is a school of thought that says it is right and proper that the age group most likely to have a crash should be kept out of larger vehicles.

Since there isn’t anything you can do about the pre 97 aspect or your age perhaps concentrating on what you can do something about?

First thing would be a trailer test, most companies run 3.500kg vehicles (transit size). Do a trailer test and you make yourself much more useful.

It depends on the job you are going for. If the job is one that includes driving then yes you need a pre 97 (or trailer test) plus you need to be old enough to be insured on vehicles at a reasonable cost.

I think too many people think that a groundsmans job is to work on the ground under a tree and a climbers job is to climb the trees. There is far more to employment with a tree company than that, and one of the main responsibilities is to drive expensive machinery from one place to another.

So if a firm is lacking in drivers then it is completly fair to require a pre 97 employee.
