Put your Rope up high and straight to you Branch, get your body down low or you aint got a chance.

Put a re direct in,if your angles to flat

If the Branch is to thin then Crawl like a Cat.

Thats what Mick told me to do.

Mick the cat - liking it. Meow!

If you can position yourself so you dont just get pulled back into the main stem but sideways you can lean back away from the branch and sort of bounce along sideway, if that makes any sense!:laugh1:

I remember back in college the tutor saying try to hold onto anything even if its epidermic as it will give you that bit of extra help(some of its mental).

Getting out is the easy bit, getting back in is a whole other thread though!:001_smile:

Just wondered if anyone has struggled with a branch walk on a big gnarly smooth barked Gum. I don't mind admitting that I hate the things due to the lack of branches and the fact that there's not even any decent rough bark to grab a hold of. I generally avoid em like the plague. Any of you fellas tackled any biggies?

Keep nearly all your weight in the rope come in a bit higher than the branch you want to walk then use your feet to kick off and swing out with your back facing side on towards the branch tip scramble out using every thing possible with one hand and feet whilst controlling the hitch with your other hand.... That's a basic branch walk or how I go about it!!! I think the best way to learn, is find a big open crown tree that you can keep a straight line to a large parallel bottom limb and just practise kicking off and swinging as far as you can and gradually build up confidence untill your running out on that branch tip....don't forget rope routes are what make a successful branch walk and trusting them and not trying to cling on to the tree to support your weight is were they go wrong!!
