What is the legal height of a neighbours hedge?

What length constitutes a hedge? ie what length of trees planted next to each other determines it as a hedge? eg if three of the same trees planted next to each other are around 12 ft in length- is that a hedge?

Only if they are conifer trees. Decidiouse trees cannot be classed as a hedge.

There os no legal height restrictions. They tried but its was unworkable, but as a guide you could go along with the height being no greater than the distance from the neighbouring house.

SO 20feet away then hedge can be 20 feet high.

Only problem with this is that it assumes hedges run parallel with houses which of course they dont.

If you mean what height is a land owner legally obliged to keep their hedge at... well, there isn't a legal limit!

Are you thinking about the High Hedge / Anti Social behaviour Act 2000 and something, possibly 5? That gives the relevant LA powers to enforce a maintenance order to keep a hedge (a minimum of two trees that are predominently evergreen spp) to a height of 6' or 2m.

No its not a set hight, as Rupe says its a calculation dependent on how far the hedge is from the objectors house.

We do grounds maintenance work for a LA/housing association and as far as I'm aware hedge's are to be kept at a max of 6ft/2m. Anything over this or causing restriction of light to neighbouring properties gives a case for reporting it to be reduced.

Though we have some privet WELL above 6ft bordering between flats and rather nice private houses. No complaints about them and no calls to reduce them. Funny that...
