Unless you threw a branch at someone I don't see what a conviction has to do with the insurance company for liability

Because insurance requires trust, if some one has a conviction for dishonesty, they are more likely to commit fraud.

Insurers don't have to give any one insurance, they can chose who they wish to offer cover to and I think its quite likely that some one with a criminal record will pose a higher risk than some with out one.

It's getting a bit of a joke now, if you have any sort of record at all then it's virtually impossible to get a decent job so the only option is self employed and now they are hitting you there aswell!!! Dictatorship

No, its just a simple case of actions having consequences, whats that old saying "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime"

A contract of insurance is one of uberimei fidei(sp??)..a "contract of the utmost good faith". An insurer offering liability cover is well entitled to know whether the potential client has a previous conviction & can take a view on its relevance. Just suppose the conviction was for a breach of health & safety laws, what might that say about the client.
