  1. I've been using mine down here in oz and I've got to say I highly recommend it! For the long ascents and climbs I'm undertaking it's a fantastic bit of kit and im extremely confident when far out on a limb to use it with one hand and not have the worry of it giving complete freedom of the climbing line.
  2. Hi all, After a lot of thought and consideration I want to take a year out to go and climb in Australia. My only confusion is how do I go about a visa? There are too many to choose from? If anybody has been there or knows the system please may you throw me your ideas or past knowledge of visas. Thank you Hope your all enjoying the sun
  3. hi i have manged to get on this course and was chuffed to bits untill i realised id missed the first few lessons in woody plant physiology. ive managed to do loads of reading and research in trying to catch up, im familiar with the words etc now but am stumped when it comes to the first question in my assignment asking me to: "identify cells in woody plants" is it a case of explaining about xylem, phloem and vascular cambium. or is it everything from the above plus explaining things like parenchyma, collenchyma, sclarenchyma, lenticells. never done an ssignment in my life and its all a bit blurry in my mind!! any help would be muchly appreciated to put my mind at rest thanks
  4. thanks for the info guys ill check it out
  5. Hi I am looking for any information regarding gaining a recognised/certificate in arboriculture.(theory) I wasnt fortunate enough to come straight out of school and into college to gain the certificate, but have been working in the tree industry for 5yrs and have attained alot of practical tickets along the way but no theory! I have had a look at some local to me but they all require 1 day off a week for a year! Im not able to do this and would like to no if any of you no of any home based studys or any other arb theory certificate i can gain which would show i have a clear understanding of arboriculture. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated thankyou
  6. Start small take your time and enjoy. Just because its a crane you dont need to start lumping out huge bits!
  7. So how are you guys currently tackling hazardous trees? I'm intrigued?
  8. Well of course I care about tree's that's our job right?all I'm saying is we've been taught best practice so that's what I stick to. Enjoy
  9. well my point of view is that if your up there worrying about the weight of limbs and timber etc then are you sure you should be up there? Trees do carry weight and thats why we use specialist gear and a good understanding of appropraite points to rig from etc... maybe i missed your point so apologies if thats the case, just come across a bit of a strange one to me! happy climbing
  10. Is there anybody out there with a previous criminal conviction who has managed to get public liability insurance cover?? If so please could you forward me on some contact details please?
  11. I disagree at least this way his felling cut can be made without blunting the saw half way through, then at least if you was to blunt the saw on the last cut you can sharpen it at your yard using a vice etc. And also means you haven't got 2-3 blokes waiting around for you to sharpen your saw only to blunt it again.
  12. well this thread has shed some light on my situation, i been having a few pains with my little "matthews" over the last month and it occurs alot whilst in my harness! problem is 3 nights a week i hit the indoor walls too so not sure wether its down too alot of harness abuse....at least now i no im not alone

    Now what?

i no some of you will disagree but things like this are sometimes to be dealt with in the head, the minute you start beliving you may have a problem suddenly it all starts going down hill, there is no job out there now that is "SAFE" from floor tilers getting bad knees to pen pushers suffering from aching fingers let alone some of the foods you cant eat as they may cause you terrible problems too much of this not enough of that..... some very wise very old people i have met before that say once you stop thats it its a nightmare from there on you just have to keep going- i belive them and fair play too stick at it we evolved from trees after all keep climbing woooo hooo
  14. i use the stein one too and its constantly hitting the deck!!! tree climbing harness's could do with a built on attachment for first aid kits as standard ; ) now that would be a touch.....
