i wouldnt worry about it, he will have an accident of some kind either to himself or one will go wrong and then he will have a big bill. Its easy cutting trees, there all pro's till it goes wrong.

Wonder what the legal and insurance situation is on that?

I've got the home insurance that covers me for any mishaps whilst I'm doing DIY, but I'd bet money that (a) there's some small print that excludes really major work like felling trees, and (b) it wouldn't cover public liability if I dropped a tree on someone's head.

So assuming these people that are having the work done, and the fellers, are both uninsured for public liability, in the event of an accident who gets sued / jailed etc??

I would say the person doing the work is liable, thats why we have insurance. If its some old guy with a b+q special they cant be that big anyway.

yes i have ! theres some old retired fart quite local to me that will straight fell trees free of charge just for the wood. the annoying part is he hasn`t a clue or qualification to his name or own any ppe, just him a chainsaw and an old vw caddy pick up and trailer. i`m waiting to bump into him (quite literally) on a back road !

How do you know??

If he's not working for money he does not need any certs.

The best hardwood faller I have ever worked with had no qualifications at all.

We have no god given right to be paid to remove all trees.

How do you think all the mechanics, decorators, plumbers, etc, feel about all the people who do there own or their friends jobs??

If he has an old husky, could it be possible that what he retired from was tree work? :001_smile:
