Why do you sell FireWood?

I find firewood pays best when I get a thinning/ coppice restoration contract. I can sell out some timber roadside to help cash flow / costs etc. The rest goes on the pile. Doing it this way puts me in mind for other work with estates (surgery, invasive species, deer etc) - one stop shop for clients, fills any empty days with work at home and ensures plenty of firewood to run the home heating system (heat & water for no cash outlay). Would I do it full time buying it in? not without a lot more investment - buildings machines etc.

I started through a friend of mine who had a wood in north suffolk,bought a load off him, sold it went back for more"sorry none left" so started scouting round for cordwood, that was 3 years ago, sold more and more each season,so now its my main business

I have to pay to dump any thing I cant chip, so I chop it up and sell it as fire wood

Also bit of extra money in the winter time

I sell mine wholesale by the arctic load.

 

I can give you plenty of reasons not to retail it.

I started because its a way of turning "waste" into a product, it makes a bit of money coming upto winter and i get to see more customers whom i have got work from through the wood sales.

 

It also keeps me goping a bit on quite days and give me a change.

It's basically waste from the job so a bit of time and work into splitting storing and delivering at quiet times in the winter is all good if you ask me !

Would be much easier to not carry waste in the first place and process the "firewood", would save e-bay scams:lol:
