Last year, I had a cracking idea. Went as far as looking at the ins and outs of getting a patent, then realised that I was somewhat lacking in money. Story of my life. :001_rolleyes: Anyway, back in March of the year, a fellow in the US filed a patent for my idea. So I though I'd tell you all, so that when you buy a chainsaw equipped with this, you can tell everyone you know of the bloke who invented it!

The idea is simple- fit the saw with an electric chainbrake, something akin to that used in the Stihl electric saws. This chainbrake is activated by a radio sensor in the bar. And this radio sensor is activated by current passing through wires woven in clothing, ropes etc. Bar gets within a pre-detirmined distance, chainbrake snaps on. No more cutting through ropes. All over safety gear no thicker than a T-shirt. Imagine the possibilities. Not difficult- the technologies already exist.

Genius huh?

How much does the clothing and ropes cost that contain these special wires? I'm not sure we will ever see this in production. Sorry I may be wrong.

Sounds pricey! Practicality vs Affordability on this one, another argument of sustainability. How practical would it be for everyone to suddenly re-invest in all new ropes/ppe/saws when safe practice is cheaper?

nice idea though, can't see it catchin on

Its abit like the husky with the extra chainbrake on the rear handle. It sounds good on paper but its not practical IME, had a go with one and was a nightmare.

Luckily i know a man who is well up on all this patent stuff, so if i ever have a great idea i know il be able to get it protected or whatever you want to call it.

actually this is perfectly feasible,,, and not expensive either,

i've worked with materials with titanium mesh built into the fabric,, this was to make wetsuits warmer,,

I've also been involved with it being used in normal textile,, perfectly doable and not expensive

If the HSE picked it up as best practice we would be saddled with it

I like that idea.:thumbup1:

Would be something like that safety device for a cut off table saw I would imagine.

I have a few for arb equipment(plus the odd other non arb stuff) but I doubt I will ever do anything about it.:001_rolleyes:

Has that feature ever made it any further than the video we have all seen? :confused1:
