certified splices

Try finding an inspector who has the gonads to stand by his quals.....

and pass something he is not happy with? Or is that the use of these magical special powers?

The splice could be commented on- I would. The issue is that without disecting the splice can you tell if it has been done to the manufacturers specs?

So why demand that an inspector puts himself in a position of liability without caveats? Pass the rope and note that it is self spliced- or non factory, hence performance uknown- I do.

If splicers carried insurance then others would be more confidant in there product.

I would have thought the Loler inspectors job is not to decide whther or not the splice is done correctly or guess what tonnage ot may fail at, it is his job to inspect for defects, bumps, hollows, cut and abrasions etc etc.

If the splice looks ok with no obvious defects then his job is done

Once again agreed 100%

Can someone please tell me if there is a factory approved splicer in the UK ?? and does he/she issue certificates with each splice

To me it seems that a LOLER inspector can fail something on which there is no proof of certification possible.

OK call me synical

I remember at the AA show, I was stood behind a lad who had just had a splice done and was being served by Nod.

He asked Nod for a cert for the splice. Which I thought was a little strange. Anyway, Nod refused and said he wouldn't be able to get a cert off anyone for a splice.

Whys and wherefores I don't know, if the splice is done correctly thats all that matters, you can't test load every splice to see what they fail at.

Surely as said before a loler inspector should only check for cuts, bumps (general wear issues). A certified arborist is certified to tie knots and so these knots are trusted. a certified splicer is certified to make splices so the same applies.

To the original question I beleive a member of this site aka Tony Sorenson can help with your problem (possibly).

Or take a splicing course yourself.

thanks for the feed back. the loler man is familiar with all the splicing techniques, he didnit fail them just said he could only loler the rope not the splice. it was interesting to here about the fact that nod would not issue a splice cert cos we have a lanyard that was spliced one end by treeworker and the other by us, they look the same and yet one cant be lolered!i have emailed a few rope manufactures awaiting a reply.would like to do a course in splicing seems strange that theres not more demand for this. thanks carl

I've asked Marlow about splice certification, splice testing, splicer training. they don't do it. Two splices can be carried out and look similar but be carried out in totally different ways.

In our governments never ending quest quest to have a ticket and risk assessment for everything It seems bizarre to me that noone offers a splicing course and ticket.

I know mine are good

I'm assuming you managed the 16 strand in teh end carlos?
