Of all the off-roaders I've used this was my favourite workhorse mainly due to its short wheel base, great engine and the fact it towed 3.5 ton, its a real pity they had to stop making them after Toyota bought them over.

Toyota rebadged them as the "Blizzard",they were popular in New Zealand.Kind of like a little Landcrusier.

Weren't they Ford Transit DI engines? by all accounts the TD5 is/was a very bad engine

 

The td5 engine was in production longer than the 200 or 300 . Ours has now done 140k with no real problems just air mass meter. The 200 hundreds we had were noisey and gutless. The 300 used to blow head gaskets between 3&4 and eat water pumps for a past time. Td5 engines from 52 plate onwards very good as long as you dont let a beardy freak run it on veg oil chip fat or snot. Get someone who knows what they are doing repair it ( not a week end mechanic )

Toyota's entry into the Freelander type market but not imported here yet

 

The other one I quite liek the look of in that sort of market is the Nissan X - Terra (no, I don't mean X Trail)- looks kinda like a small pathfinder crossed with a freelander.
