Hi all

Just took down 1/4 acre of chestnut coppice to give a customer a view. Good timber already gone as posts. I then stacked the bendy timber in 10' lengths with the digger. Was just wondering how quickest to season it? No substitute for splitting each length, I know, but would scoring the bark with the saw have a similar effect?

Alternatively, does anyone know anywhere I can hire a cone splitter for the digger?

Thanks!

Split it all down into logs. Keep it of the ground and covered but with a bit of air through flow. It should season pretty quick - before the winter is out.

Wow Wolfie! Ever tried to season chestnut quickly? Even when split?

No way chestnut seasons quickly, it's 1.5 to 2 years and given its BTU's you wouldn't want to make a habit of using it for quick drying firewood.
