The "partnership" is the worst vessel to ever set sail.

It would not be for me, things change and I need to have freedom to be flexible, if needs be. Having to fit in with the needs and wants of another would drive me nuts.

Just my view.

Im with Huck on this one, it wouldnt do for me.

why not just hire it when you need it and let someone else have the hassle or servicing, break downd etc.

I 50/50 share with another member. It seems to work ok, each party leaves the machine filled for the next time, we sort of share the running costs as and when without a written agreement. Its not ideal, remembering to arrange dates that its needed so we dont clash, but as we're mates its ok. It is a good way to get started with major purchases, but you do need to trust one another to a certain extent. BTW we are not in any way business partners, totally independent running our own shows. Would I commit to such an agreement in future, I dont think so, and this is not a reflection on the other party, but wouldnt suit my current situation (and I expect his) as much as it did at the time of purchase. But it works.

Stephens advice is very good if you are going to consider this partnership. Setting up some kind of formal hire agreement etc would hopefully stop any nonsense! Also with the pair of you putting money into a pot (depending on how sensibly you use the chipper!), you may just end up with a good saving between you which could more than cover repayments, servicing, blade sharpening etc. leaving money left over to use elsewhere perhaps.

Personally I would never entertain any kind of sharing arangement because it would inevitably lead to clashes somewhere along the line. Be it financially, care during use or both wanting it on the same day!

Good luck whatever you decide mate.

if your climber wants a half share of a chipper then it seems to me he wont be using you for some jobs-prob find someone cheaper.

my advice is buy it outright yourself

this is a valid point, however its also works both ways, so I dont see it as an issue. Well, it hasnt affected me anyway.:001_smile:

just don't share it

it'll end in tears

mark my words

even if you are both straight about it- they'll be the day when you want it and he has used it the day before , finished late and left it needing attention- gonna cause friction. Or the day you want it and the weather closes in and means you go into another day- when he has it booked. You just not going to be the same friends as before- he's got the climbing skills and now a chipper so only you can lose.

I know this sounds negative but...............................

It's experience i suppose
