I put up with this for years and years, and seem to have finally cured it! (it'lll probably start leaking now i have said that!!) I made sure that the doors made a good seal with the rubbers, I had to bend that top in ever so slightly, and shape the front edge inwars to make sure, and then I siliconed along the top of the windscreen frame where it meets the roof, bringing it round the first 6 inches or the door seal too. Having holes in the gutter drilled for the roofrack has meant endless leaks- in the morning about a cupful of water would run out of the channel behind the headlining above the dor an soak me. So i got some "Plumbers Gold" sealent/ adhesive, and put a hefty coating along the outside gutter- as has been mentioned above the meagre sealant applied at the factory soon wears out and leaks like hell! So far so good- no leaks yet!

I have to disagree with most on this thread and say that having owned 4 Defenders none of mine have leaked any water unless of course I have purposely submerged it.

I did however buy a new 06 plated one that did show the leak and after driving it back to the dealer they sorted it within an hour.

It is fixable and something that you shouldn't have to put up with.

Silicone may not be your answer. YOu need something like plumbers gold, as silicone needs to be trapped between 2 surfaces to be best (yeah I know- baths, showers etc etc....) but i have had probs with silicone before. Bituminous mastic would be good too.
