well the swapped up/down isnt an issue, coudlt it be a legal safety feature possibly? otherwise it would have been built down for down and up for up!

 

we will have to see how well it splits, theres a little pile already and my dad did it and said it worked well, ill have a go at the weekend and give a review

Like Ed said, Its better the opposite way round, so if you get knocked out/fall over, you dont de limb yourself Im sure its a HSE thing

i doubt its a safety thing, it looks like a basic imported splitter so they are aimed at the private market, safety features dont really come into it with them, i had to go and fix one for a nieghbour the other day as they bought 1 similar, they had the hoses in the wrong services, swapeed them about, put the lever to a diferent position, job done.

I'd not worry - for it to be HSE compliant it would need to be double handed operation anyway

It’s not a HSE requirement, those standards go way further than that but a lot of people pipe down for up as a basic safety precaution.

 

So if I understand you took delivery on the week end and it’s already busted?

 

Why are you fixing it and not sending it back as unfit for purpose?

From what I was told it bent as it was splitting a rather solid beech log. It's been reinforced now. I think it twisted on the grain as it was pressing down so that's how it bent. If something else goes wrong with it I'll make sure the dealer is notified!
