its a regular client, in the borders, a big house, must have been planted up 100-150 years ago.. The fir near the house is the one in this vid, it was 100 foot, these are on slightly higher ground, but will be 100 foot easy.

Tall tree there Tom.

 

We first met this Oak last April, when it was flushing slightly but looking really ill. It had a bracket which some of my learned colleagues identified as inonotus dryadeus (see 'willow bracket on oak?' in tree health care).

 

Condemned by the TO (good call Linda!), we felled it today. It had gone back quickly since April, dead as a nail and dry as a bone.

 

25" bar just nicked it at gob height. 4" ring from bottom saved for the Hamma to examine. Hit a bloody nail just below the gob, so that explains the rough texture on your section Tone! And some of the funky colouring.

 

Decked in about 90 mins, rest of the day cutting and clearing.

 

Nice job, but the nice folks were out so not a brew in sight. Beer o'clock now to make up for it.
