a few pics from a willow removal a few weeks back....sorry for the poor quality, they were taken on a camera phone.

willow had no decent anchor point, had to redirect to get the far limb, a good 30ft away and at a pain in the bum angle.....it was also over a stream/river, most of it was roped down on to the far bank then checked across.

this is about 4 meters from the roadside :scared1:

You gotta respect the axiom of uniform stress goin on here.

"the tendency for all self optimizing structures to make as economic a use of their material as possible, and to become as strong as necessary to perform their function".

from C M's BLOT

The forces being absorbed by the compression and tension wood here truly are remarkable.

How large is the canopy btw?

Great post Iain, keep um comin

ps get the HA to move the road a few meters, give the old girl a 10% fractured retrenchment and Bobs your Aunty. ( No offence Bob )

Just kidding.

Reason for total removal Steve?

Bank stability, Basal decay?

Would be interesting from my point to hear reasons for works, if they're not crystal from the pics.

Was "pollarding" not an option?

Cheers

David

Very nice work btw.
