Difficult to judge the distances from the pic, but could you tie into the big conifer behind the dead cedar? If so I might risk snatching some of the dead tree, but only if failure of the tree would not result in catastrophe for climber, ground crew or other targets on the ground.

Its on the edge of a woodland but directly above a dry stone wall, thats why we have to lower. Yeah Peter I think my best bet is to anchor in the tree behind, make all the necessary cuts then un-tie from the cedar while the groundscrew pull from way back.

can you winch it back into the wood between the big pine and that wee beech.:001_smile:

hey drew b on page 242 you were taking down an acmena,do you work for a$$ plunges? sorry asplundh? havent seen a acmena in ages.where are you based?
