:confused1:

You clearly don't know much about it, because number of hours worked makes no difference, its about earnings.

I've always claimed, well my accountant as, its a tax rebate.

I guess you don't put business expenses on your tax return Mick, because thats just working the system to sponge!!:sneaky2:

I dont get it, by your own admission you earn in excess of £100k a year yet still need tax credits.....:confused1:

i for one do not feel ashamed about working tax credits or child benefit, for many years weve paid in whilst struggling to make a viable business and keep our employees in work and before i married and had children i had a very highly paid job and paid in alot of tax etc for more years than some even stay in work, so i do not feel ashamed about using WORKING tax credits or child benefit for hte benefit of my family, i do not fiddle the system and only claim for what i am entitled to, we make a living, but do not have the life of riley and have a stash squirrelled away, we are a working family, trying to get by, keep our employees paid a decent wage and keep our heads above water in these difficult times.

i know of lots who scrouge and doss about, my father died when i was young, my mother had to bring us up and child benefit was a lifeline.

so lets not judge to harshly with blanket dismissals

What a great thread!!! :laugh1: I'm with Mick on this one and I know that can be seen as harsh, bit since when was life not so? Oh, sorry, it's easy for the claimants, forgot.

I had an individual ask me for casual work about a year ago; he claims depression and a number of other things. Fine, but what is he doing to deal with his issues? Sod all! Council House, CTax paid, utilities subsidised and plays with his tatty camper van, drinks quite a lot and can't hold a job down due to his character. I said to him something along the lines of "you want me to pay you when you know that I know you won't lift a finger and I'm already paying you money - as a tax payer..." :001_huh: Kiss mine.

I agree that there are numerous situations where people need help, but why oh why does it always have to be financial? What happened to family and the common good where folks looked after their neighbour in practical matters? In my opinion this fits with the thread as a whole and the same old same old - socialism vs capitalism. See the former thinks it can fix social ills by chucking money at it - hasn't worked fot the last 13 years has it? Unless you call council houses with flippin great plasma tellies as standard + dogs + fags + booze + ok car = problem solved?

Why is it a mistake ? Am I not entitled to an opinion or is it because I'm in the minority.

I suppose you are I just don't like them at all, I don't claim tax credits but have seen them help people in serious need I have also seen our tax spent on a lot of stupid things. Don't get me wrong I can tell you will have worked hard for what you have but some people aren't as lucky as yourself and I would rather see money spent in this way than in other ridiculous other ways. I'm not posting against you because your a minority I'm big enough and old enough to have my own views I just think you can't see the wider picture that there are genuine people who need help or maybe you are just gloating that you will never need any help and you want to make people feel small? One question do you have kids?
