I use the mewp all the time as an improvised anchor, especailly when doing BIG wide previously reduced connies where the centres are too low to stand on and you struggle for a safe foothold.

 

You are not hanging below the basket, you are using it as an safety anchor point not a working anchor point.

 

If the mewp is not at full tilt you have a huge safety margin same as a crane works, on full outreach you can only lift 200kg whereas close in at say 2m you could probably hang a 1 ton weight off the boom.

Still can't work out from the pic. Is the White thing the basket? It looks lower and the rope angle is no where near. Confused. Or did you put in a re-di off the chimney pot?
