Non-tightening knot?

I find that the alpine butterfly can be a pain to undo, even when you use hand operated pulley systems.

Get a stick and put it in the middle of the bowline and stop it binding up.

I would use either a bowline on the bight, or a double bowline with the tail fed through as a quick release. Another quick way to do it is tie two marlin spikes close together and attach your hook at the end of the cable through both loops.

How about using a Klemheist, seemed to work well when we used it and quick to slide along to take up any slack.

ditto, when you tie the bowline, stick a combi spanner in.

A plastic or metal tapered pin can be inserted where the top loop forms around the line. Forget the knot, use a portawrap.

I tend to use a running bowline when pulling stuff over. I've found the butterfly knot will get too tight to undo. I've got a few ropes with them still in as i can't get them undone. Again i tend to put a stick in the bowline to stop it doing up too tightly.

bowline on a bight defo just make sure you clip into the 2 loops that are together not the loop on its own otherwise that tightens it up

Try soaking your jammed knots in a bucket of water for a few hours...

or put them in a vice and attack them with combi spanners and molegrips, i like what Peter says about using a portawrap in the system.

Mid line bowline for me.

 

Put both loops through the shackle/hook to give belt and braces security.

 

I like to make a larger loop with the bight than the loaded loop to make certain of it not tightening accidentally.

 

Never have a problem with seizing knots.

 

Or, like Peter, use a small porta wrap for lots of smaller trees to save tying every time.
