can i suggest a 4x4 loader tractor 100hp,with cab & working heater , a pto is so verstile :thumbup1:

Yes 4x4 is brilliant i hate 2wd tractors with a passion. A working heater is such a nice feature in the winter. IF you can get one with air con too you'd be quids in.

Tractors that have been used to spread fertalizer are always a bit rusty too so be careful.

You might want to look at "Tractor and Machinery" magazine, it's basically vintage tractor porn but there are usually quite a few DB, MF, etc. loader machines in the classifieds, and many of the sellers are enthusiasts rather than gimlet-eyed dealers.

Hi all,

Looking to buy our first yard machine

Can't decide what'd be best to get :confused1:

Got about £3.5k....maybe go to 4.5k

Want it initially to load crates of logs onto the truck

Do we go for an old tractor loader, then we can get trailers, splitters processors etc as cash flow allows

Or maybe a teleporter,

Or maybe a skid steer, then we can get attachments at a later date

if we buy either of the last two, when we eventually buy a processor, we'd only have to buy a standard tractor, because we'd have the lifting machine

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

HELP :lol::lol::lol:

I was about to start a similar thread Dave. My barn is just about finished and it has limited floor space with loads of height so I need something to lift the sacks/crates ... anyone use a pallet truck? which seems the cheapest option.

You could try a pallet truck but any debris on the floor will jam wheels. You will need to put bags on pallets. We tryed all terrain pallet truck but you loose too much space due to wheels either side. I would look for something like a buggyscopic make sure it can stack you bags not all have enough height.

Farm sales are good places to buy tractors. A few years ago I saw a VRY tidy john deere h reg 100hp with loader and attachments go for £1900!!! That is probably a bit of an extreme example, but stuff usually goes a bit cheaper than usual.

Ebay is a good place because you can meet the owner eye ball to eyeball before making a bid. I prefer kit which people have owned for a few years and have some faith in. Farm sales can have alot of kit which is being cleared because it has a major fault. Doing home work pays dividens ask the auctioneer where the lot has come from and sus whether it is a large genuine outfit clearing old kit or a crook off loading some junk. If you can buy with a profit in it should it not suit your operation you can still move it on. Good luck with your search.

seriously look at getting yourself down to one of cheffins auctions at cambridge machinery sales, they have several 100's of tractors from nearly brand new to stuff 30yrs old and on its last legs, take someone with you who knows a bit about tractors but you should easily pick up something in budget, We have had kit from there and as long as you know what your looking for you'll get sorted, normally the little case tractors of about 85hp 4x4 with a loader should be within your budget
