How many of you guys use cranes that have their own insurance? We have a company down here that have their own, but a few others which all insist you have the insurance for them!

I just pay the extra for their insurance, I very much doubt mine would cover it.

An if a crane job goes wrong, it goes wrong BIG TIME!!:scared1:

Nice work Reg.

Have you come across this before?

I priced up a crane dismantle recently, the crane company who I asked to price the job said that as tree dismantling involves a "commited lift" ie once the weight is on you can't take it off again, that they would need a 4:1 safety factor meaning I would need a 90 ton crane at £1500 a day! I could do the job with a 30 tonner probably. I'll try some other companies if I get the job.

Yep, what was the "dont do a Dave Myers" comment?

Having had a few beers with the guy I would imagine the list is of possibilities is quite long!!!!

Dave is cool, and has been through-it a few times now. The other day He had one flip on him and the crane op had to react fast to stop him getting lashed by the brush.... instead sweeping out the gutters on the roof.

Tom, 4:1 sounds reasonable, but why not just agree to cut smaller. Sounds like up-selling to me.

Today went to crap. The wind really messed up everything, had the 50t there and then half way through the job I tried to spear/freefall a branch while waiting for the hook to return, the wind got it and it fell on top of me and wacked my fingers. Couldn't barely undue the shackle after that let alone climb or start the saw. End of job for the day, only half finished.
