I think it would be better if you could hit top speed as you near the bottom of the yard and deploy the bag like a parachute before carrying out a hand brake turn and returning to workshop with bag filled and a big grin on your face ( but i am on tin no 6 so this may not make sence in the morning )

go on then ,,whos seen or got a good hopper or frame for filling bulk bags with logs,,,,,,,polish have all gone home,,,,so i want to shovel em up in bucket of the matbro and tip em in ..then stack em ready for dispatch..

I've found that the most cost effective method is to split straight into the bags in the first place rather than split to a big heap and then reload into bags. If you use the vented bags the logs season better than being left in a big pile. it also looks neat and tidy #(for those of us with OCD:thumbup1:) to fill the bags i hang them off the pallet forks and position at end of belt. when full simply stack and on to the next one

And if you have the lift capacity there will be some 1.4 cu bags about in November :thumbup1:

  • 4 weeks later...

nearly all of my logs i cut green, let season in the vented bulk bags, then empty bulk bags into a trailer and net up for the farm shops. biggest prob i have is emptying them, loops on the bottom all well and good but stitching could be stronger... have now made up a metal pallet that i strap the bag to and then strap the lot to the forks, tips like a bucket. bit of a faff tho :-( any other suggestions?

I do exactly the same with the filled bag sitting on a pallet. when ready to load lift with forks under pallet and tip over into truck then ditch pallet and spear under loop with a fork and lift clear. jobs a good un!

I use IBC container frames covered with windbreak netting but make sure you get the metal pallet bases as the wooden pallets split. I then use a 180 degree pallet rotator on a fork lift to empty containers, Also use the same system but still with the plastic liner for handling woodchip and wood pellets.

How about this?

Have a look at lot 533, gas axe the bottom out, put a couple of skids / rollers on one side and hooks to hang the bag off the bottom,

or

any farmers out there selling old hay elevators that could be used to fill some sort of above ground hopper system?
