Sorry but I wont sign the petition. The price of oil is never going to go down, its time we started organizing our lives around it.

What I have signed for is for the government to increase the Vat on diesel and drop the duty, creating an essential user rebate.

If this laughable proposal was to be enacted, who would it really affect?

Small non VAT registered businesses and tradesmen

volunteers and charity workers

the elderly and retired

the low paid and unemployed

And of course the average motorist who drives to work to earn an already savagely taxed income. All to support a small sector that is finding that it is a bit tough at the moment. In time the oil price will stabilise and the hauliers will adjust their costing to allow for it. Any of them with half a brain would write a fuel surcharge clause into their contracts wouldn't they?

The real scandal is not the 'price' of oil; we all understand that that is variable. It is surely a tax and duty system that is percentage based and thus benefits the governments coffers. An even better idea would be if the government stopped wasting money and reduced general taxation, then we would have a clear choice whether we wished to spend it on fuel. As it is the more it costs to run a vehicle, taking into account cost/depreciation/interest/insurance/maintenance/VED etc., the more incentive there is to use it, to bring down the average cost per mile.

At the real risk of getting my head banged against my VHS collection of the money programme; is it not one of a governments remits to raise money through taxation? Government coffers are our coffers are they not? Isn't taxation the way we afford our way of life? I'm sure we all have our own ideas on how the money can be spent. isn't it the existence of so many disparate ideas the reason that taxation is as high as it is? My waste is your viable policy etc. Do you have a better system? I'd happily pay more income tax if it resulted in zero homeless, better NHS care, education etc etc. I like tax!

Exactly Jason.

I've been saying this for years, I hear people winghing about the state of the NHS and Gov services and in the next breathe how they pay too much tax.

One thing I would like to see is OUR money used more efficiently which would in itself probably reduce the need for higher taxation.

I don't mind paying for a house for an MP to live in nearer to work provided that when that house is sold, all the money inc profit goes back into gov coffers.

I draw the line at cookers, decorating and food, they are consumables and not investments

We do pay to much tax - WE fund the no hopers who pay for nothing.. We fund all the new comers to our country who only no one english word benefits.

Other countrys dont stand for it, why should we, lose the dead weight and we will all be better off and wont have to keep raising taxes...

Exactly what I was saying, use our tax more efficeintly. :icon14:

There's far too much wastage, what I can't understand here (and this will start a debate) is why some many people are sat at home claiming benefits when there are so many things need doing in the community, ie Cleaning graffiti, repairing vandalised walls, clearing litter, helping out the elderly, charities, you get the drift.

I know someone who is better off than me, his wife claims invalidity, he is her carer, plus other things he claims. Doesn't need to work yet she wanders off down town to do the shopping. Pees me right off. :cussing:
