My next door neigbour once mention putting a chicken up the chimney. I tried it it didnt work but I think it may have still been frozen in the middle :lol:

We stayed with my wife's uncle out in the boondocks East of Canberra a few years back and while I was there by myself the chimney caught fire. It sounded like a jet engine and this is in a large wooden house. With very low water pressure, a short length of hose and a great deal of adrenaline after half an hour or so I managed to put it out.

When said uncle returned I told him of my heroism and he patted me on the shoulder and said that was how they cleaned the chimney.

I don't get the chicken thing. Either an in joke or people think I'm spamming. Or both.

the edwardian way :blushing:

put a chicken down the chimney,and it would flap and use its claws trying to get back out,hence removal of the soot,cleaning the flue.

also as a post in this thread the edwardians also used the holly branch on rope pulled through the chimney :001_rolleyes:
