Why the 200T chain brake is rubbish.

I don't understand what you are doing to snap a chain brake handle? Are you over zealous stopping the chain or are you smashing the saw into the tree when it's swinging around on a strop below you?

well ive only broken three so far, thats one for every 7.3 years!

 

My saws on a swivel biner on my belt, also have a strop on it BUT i dont dangle the saw or swing with it, nor do i have to pull it back up to me through brash!

put it this way, they are a darn site better than the old aluminium 20T!

 

the corner always broke on the fuel tank and they wieghed a lot more! any one who could do fine tip reductions all day with one of those had fore arms like charles atlas!

i would recomend one of those petzl karritool clips for the saw there great, i always return it to the clip, saves loads of time when climbing and is a lot easier on the saw,

although the clips break easly.

I like the DMM sidewinders for my saw clip, about 15 squid if I remember right, great for the purpose.

The saws just get a right good hammering, as they should they are supposed to be pro gear.

 

The prob I have is that they used to be fine but they changed it for the worst.

 

The ms220T is still a great saw and atm I wouldnt swap it for anything else.

I agree, these chainbrake/front handguards are sub-quality. I break about 2 or 3 a year and I use a Karitool clip too, its a pain, lets go to the Stihl main office and stage an arbo-sit in!

I use old over loaded krabs as carry tools as you can still do the gate up but its always open and easy to re hook whist cutting,those plastic carry tools seem to last 5 mins as well....

like i said we have broken 3 this year some times i can go for a years without breaking one.... it usually seems to be conny hedges they get broken in.

The little caritools are dung. The big ones are mint.

 

No problems with handles here, but like Hamadryad I keep my saw clipped close and don't bang it about.

 

I have always clipped my biner onto the handle to carry it. And pretend I am a Rock God now and then.

 

3 a year Matty? Serves you right for doing so many conny 'hedges'!
