Bad Debtors.

Recommended Posts

Main thing Mick is try not to let it get in your head too much... When you're tired I find that sometimes I can spend literally hours winding myself up about something like this - if it happens these days I just keep reminding myself not to waste life immersed in negative, angry thoughts but it's hard :sneaky2: it's a massive test of self discipline.

They usually pay in the end and then a few months later there'll be another like them... just part of life and the job we do unfortunetly.

Thats my take on it too,in most situations.:001_smile:

just take goods to the value of what you are owed, write to them first explaining you will do so and send it recorded delivery so there is proof they received it. i had a guy try and knock me for 3.5k and after doing the 35 round trip to his yard 4 times and listening to every excuse under the sun i had enough. Turned up the last time and saw him peering out from behind the curtains but sent his wife out saying he wasnt there so i jumped onto their quad bike and loaded into the back of a horse box parked in the corner of their yard, i then hooked the horsebox onto the back of the truck and proceeded to drag it wheel clamp and all down their freshly tarmaced driveway then back home................ 15 mins went by and i got a call saying that he had the money in cash in full for me..... just proves it sometimes takes soo much more than what is really necessary to get your money.

I've got one at the minute, he's never been a great payer but always put plenty of work my way but in the last 18 months he's got worse and worse, at the minute he's 6 weeks over my credit terms, sent all the usual, monthly statement of account, statement of overdue account, final demand and last week a letter informing him if it was'nt paid within 5 working days it would be passed to debt collectors and interest charged at 5 % weekly as per t's and c's and still nothing! :cursing: So he's going to debt collectors as I've had enough now this is the third time he's done it, so he can go whistle for any more work unless he pays up front :001_cool:

Nice one, a friend has done the same many a time. Charges them a recovery fee to, has always worked. He always buys us a round of drinks with the "recovery money" so im not complaining about his debt recovery techniques

As i understand it you are entitled to take and sell goods exceeding the value to which you are owed, and give the change back to the debtor. I dont know the legal protocol, suffice to say I know of a case where a road gang took a JCB in lieu of payment, drove to the police station and reported it stolen, and on explaining the situation were told that they were entitled to sell the machine etc, that it wouldnt be treated as theft because they had informed the police. Needless to say the money they were owed was paid pretty sharpish.
