A snapping Chain

Not a nice thought, but has this ever happened to anyone?

Never happened or been near it happening yet, touch wood!

 

I remember hearing scare stories when i was a kid, about people who had had their faces split open

but never actually met anyone who has had this happen to em.

I'm fairly sure a chain snapping is a fairly tame ordeal. The lead chain-catcher under the sprocket literally bends and grabs the chain while the rest flings underneath the saw (may hit you in the leg but with chainsaw trousers on I can imagine it would only sting a little. and strikes the plastic bit below the rear handle that some people think is where you put your foot when you start the saw!

A few times with 020s, nothing dramatic. They usually just fly off the end of the bar, never to be seen again!

nearly all my 020 chains snap. I only ever use my 020 up a tree, and because of this they rarely need sharpening. i'll typically get half way down a chain at which point it snaps due to the amount of use its had(typically 6 months daily use)

I have had a chain snap on me but the chain catcher on the side case stopped it doing any damage to me or the saw.

had a chain snap on a 660, whip round and wack the back of my bare hand, only the slightest of scratches

had a chain snap on a 250:001_rolleyes: chain cacth got it didnt even relise as was ride clearing and bored out my scull thought it sounded odd then relised:blushing: didnt even touch my leg

If you want to snap chains regularly use that cheap engine oil from wilkinsons or asda,i've had them go after a week from new,it don't lubricate or stick,wouldn't want to put it in a car engine

not had one snap yet but chain came off bar once, mashed chaincatcher and wrapped round my right hand, put a good hole in my glove and made me bleed my own blood, haha only a scratch but put new chain catcher on. was 25inch bar on 460
