I thought running a saw with no bar and chain on it is a BIG no-no!!?

It causes the saw to over rev and there is not drag from the chain! Or is that total rubbish?

S'wot I was taught.....

As for the rest of it....dingbat!!:001_tongue:

Given the right teacher he would make a fine student, I doubt any of us were that sharp when we started out...

well said Lee, I sent the guy a youtube msg to say he should join Arbtalk as there are some very knowledgable chainsaw guys here,

this was his reply

Re: Stihl 38 Av

Hi man,

Thanks for pointing that out, I am just starting out on this thing and I never claimed to know anything, I'm just preparing it for my chainsaw training I'm already booked on.

I have replied to the guys who told me I will kill myself in no time, lose all my limbs etc. Telling them that they should respect that I have not yet attempted to cut any wood untill I get qualified.

And I have a 'text box' that pops up at the start of the "Saga" vid explaining that, they can laugh but not leave anymore hater comments.

Thanks for not assuming like the rest mate,

Dave

I suppose he has a bit more sense than some in that he has removed the dangerous bit while messing about with a saw that he has no clue about(which he also admits to).

A lesser man would give it to someone else to fix.:001_smile:

Was still a good chuckle though.

I thought he seemed a nice well-spoken lad who's had least had the initiative to try. He may not know what he's doing but he's the sort of kid that would soon learn if shown:thumbup:

Yes i tend to agree, a lot of lads would of "kicked off" cos it didnt work in a flash, i only wish people with no idea at all would seek advice on the very basics like the leaking oil and starting before playing around. The fact that it wont rev cos the brake is on and he's messing with the mixture says it all.

It may be better if he leaves the bar and chain off the saw and just chucks at the tree, will be safer!
