There are only two solutions to this problem. One is to have no regulation at all, the other is to properly enforce the regulations that we have and, as has already been mentioned, to have a CORGI type scheme.

What we have now punishes the genuine small companies and rewards the cowboys and those who are prepared to take a chance with qualifications and insurance etc.

I've made the same move as Skyhuck, cut down to me and one ther man, and bring in extra help when needed. I can see a lot of company's doing this over the next few years. I used to have 12 guys working for me, even the memory of it makes me shudder...

I also think this is the way to go. 12 employees. Bloody hell! What a nightmare that could be. A one-crew tree firm can be very profitable if its running efficiently and consistently.

When we started getting more work than one team could handle two teams seemed the only option. Increasing our prices proved a much simpler and more profitable way of solving that problem.

I can as an employed person see the argument on both sides of this thread, but some of us on here are employed in the industry and also subbie out on weekends to other companies for an extra income when availible working under there insurance etc and the money is declared.:icon14:

And now for the rant on some threads on this forum guys talk of climbing with no rescue climber or with some one who can climb but has no tickets to say so, overloading pickups etc. When were all whiter than white maybe then we can start and and tell the weekend cowboy his work and work method is shite.:cussing:

An issue with being a one or two man band is what happens when you don't want to/can't climb every day. I know some guys keep climbing into there 50's but unless your making serious cash there are still a few years till retirement.

Think of the money.

Stretch.
