Cost of getting a 7.5 ton license

if youve only got a transit your probly best off doing a trailer test instead.allows you to tow a heavier trailer without the ball ache of doing your rigid then artic licence.if you intend to drive anything over 3.5t couped with a heavy trailer then probly worth doing the artic as it will be more cost effective in the long run although you do have to do the rigid first.both 1 week courses were around £1200 each when did mine.

just wondering how i would cost me to get my 7.5ton licence and will that allow me to tow any wieght i want . im towing a timberwolf 150 on my tranny once i put any chip on im over the limit :confused1: guessing id be looking at points/ban if im caught ?

 

Well thats interesting as I believed you could tow a Timber 150 on a transit on the new license as the max tow weight is 750 kg, the timber wolf is 730kg . I know all the lads I have been working with over the last months most of them are on the new licenses tow the timer 150s with chips on a transit . I did go into this with the boss and it seemed they could tow them nothing was raised over the chip weight in the transit at the end of the day I did not think of that bit of it .

 

I have very little understanding of this but I would of thought that the chips are not part of the tow weight as they are in the transit itself not on a trailer.I know on the new license I believe you can drive up to 3.5 ton van so would I would think it depends how heavy the transit is with chips in total.

 

There will be others reading these posts that may be able to answer these questions

with a better understanding of the rules as I also would also like to know these answers too. it all seems to be a gray area.

Unbraked? You can tow a trailer under 750 when unbraked on new liscece

You can drive a transit full of chip (under the max load) and a trailer/chipper under 750kg on a normal licence.

to tow a larger trailer or chipper, all you need is the trailer test ontop of your normal licence.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. :001_smile:

The loading of the vehicle is of no relevance to the licencing issue

Post 97 licence holders can drive a vehicle up to 3,500kg and tow a maximum of 750kg these weights are Maximum Authorised Mass and refer to the most the vehicle is legally allowed to weigh.

Your licence is just as valid if your towing vehicle is empty or overloaded although overloading will get you a fine and points.
