vt failure causes bad fall

I have been going to give the VT a real try, but this incident and others I have heard have made me think I will give it a miss.

 

I seems to me that you do need to have a more conservative climbing stile when using the VT, I use a prussic, I often go for a bit of a swing or sit back onto my line without tending my hitch, it would appear that such things would not be good on a VT.

Not more conservative at all. Watch some of the ITCC comps on YouTube. The 2008 beddes work climb will show you how conservative a technique it isn't.

In my 16+ years in the industry I can't think of one accident caused by equipment failure.

 

Ummm- attachment loops on Drag' II Butterfly harness ( 2yrs old-lolered 3 times) oooh that 020 fell a long way ! ( Was fine-hit brash pile ) lots of chain loops parting from near-new, 020 s mainly, all small stuff I kno-but 'could' have been nasty ,

I use a 7mm bit of Mountain 'bootlace' prusssic cord- nice n grabby but runs smooth on New England hiveee, rarely slips-but I never don't check

 

Should be a minimum of 8mm mate

7mm is not recommended and usually not strong enough:confused1:

This could be one

was the cord suitable

hopefully a loler guy would of said so

earlier a guy says he uses 7mm and later admits he does not have loler SUPPRISE

and anyone who says this is totally climber error is misguided

you all know just how this happened and it is KNOT related

And you can all picture just how it happened

I am not saying the climber is not at fault but this is the exact reason I do not climb on this system and have always said so

ergonomically it is a good system but thats it imo
