Starting out climbing when your older.

Yes, and the second part of the question is;

If you had started at the age of 20, do you think you would have been a better all round climber?

I thought there was another part to the question Peter.

The answer Is - Yes

I think we may be falling into the arbtalk trap of having different interpretations of what the thread is about.

I'm arguing for a place for late starters. Others are arguing that younger ones make better climbers. I'm not sure which its about and would appreciate clarification:001_smile:

I would be arguing which makes a better all round arborist.

IMO it doesn't matter whether you have 10 years experience and are 30 or 10 years experience and are 50 you will still have the same qualities as an arb.

If it is not in your make up to push, have stamina, a tendency to take in information, a natural eye for shape and form and an ability to adapt create or improvise then you will never make an outstanding arb

It seems to me this thread is revolving around fitness and not ability to be an arborist

Interesting.

I have some observations from some time in the industry spent with different firms.

There are plenty of good businessmen running successful arb firms who are mediocre climbers.

There are plenty of good climbers running firms who are out of their depth business wise.

There are a few people out there with their own firms who quite frankly are rubbish climbers and suck at running a business.

The best climbers I have worked with have started young.

I have an old blue book from 1997, forestry degree and have been a TO but only started SRT climbing this year. But thanks to many years of inspecting quality tree works and butchering. I think, I might have more than an idea how to prune a tree so that it looks aesthetically pleasing and it is still a variable biological organisms.:001_tt2:

So is that where you were going with this peter. You are someone I respect from seeing you on the forum for years. I have to say I'm a little dissapointed. Unless you were making some other point, or just made that one badly. or am I missing something, I'm sure I am:001_smile:
