Yup - 4runner is the UK model of the surf.

They are a fantastic motor. Rumoured to have the head gasket go at some mileage, I didn't have the problem, but that and the springs, are the only things I know about.

The springs do have to be done with the 25% stronger ones then they will carry a load.

In NZ theres tonnes of jap import surfs, and they are quite funny to watch as they always have the nose high in the air

edit: i've finally figured how to post pics, after about 2 years, so expect loads of uneccessary pic postings

A mate of mine is thinking of buying one, He's a builder so he wants it to tow his trailer. He's after a cheap (ish) 4x4

Between us we dont know much about them, Just wondered what people on here thought of them?

Any good??

Cheers

My mate has one, he doesn't tow a trailer, but it hasn't let him down in 5 years

I used to have one and loved it until troubles started. Problem with the imports are the parts and electrics, if a fault develops then it will cost you a fortune, also they are prone to a major failing in the cooling system which causes the engine to blow.

Get it checked before buying and my advice would be stay clear of the imports. Very, Very juicy as well. I now run a ranger and the fuel costs are half!!

I ended up selling it with a blown engine for 350 to a guy in wiltshire.
