It seems to me you knew the risks before doing that one,but as said before i'd have strapped it up an taken an anchor off another tree.Well done for pulling it off.

You can use a quick release lanyard if your are roped in to another tree..

As someone once told me "If in doubt, just close your eyes and keep cutting. One way or another it'll all be over in a second."

 

 

But seriously....Fair play for doing it, but as above a ratchet and an anchor on another tree would have been much safer.

When I was having my first go on a pair of spikes the climber who was letting me have ago started cutting away at the base of the tree (a dead Elm)

 

When I got down there was a fire place sized hole in the side of the hollow stem, he had cut of a large burr off for his dad to turn.

 

It taught me good lesson in just how strong trees are.
