well most mid range trators of recent age (JD 6030 series and other equivalent) will have a 40k box, which is only 24/25mph, ive took one at that speed on a 50mile trip to lancaster, just keeping an eye on who was behind me and pulling over in laybys from time to time, get all sorts of 'salutes' as the drivers go past.

WE also have a smaller kubota 2350 which is a compact tractor, it does about 8mph at full speed, and its road legal.

There is i beleive, but don't take my word for it. Its worded something like "being able tho maintain a speed of 30mph on the flat under its own propultion" I'm sure Huck can recall it from memory, we've discussed it before. Huck???

Thats one of the motorway regulations "the vehicle must be able to do 25mph on the flat under it own power", thats why a tractor without suspension and air brakes cannot go on the Mway, as legally they cannot do over 20mph on the high way.

The comprehensive answer to this is there is no minimum speed limit on normal A B or C class roads under normal circumstances although Highway Obstruction might apply if you come to a complete stop and block the carriageway. Motorways have a national minimum speed limit of 30mph in order to prevent the usual multiple pile up by the MGPs doing 100+ whilst looking 2 feet in front of their bonnet. Certain roads have a designated minimum speed limit in order to keep traffic moving for example the Blackwall Tunnel under the Thames has a mnimum of 10mph. This is shown by a small blue sign. Provided your vehicle is road legal and not of abnormal size or weight, you can use the road at whatever speed you wish unless any of the above applies. If you are over weight ie above 38 tonnes or over 35 feet in length, you will require a police escort. Hope this is helpful.

Are you sure about this?? and where will we find this legislation??

I have followed mobile cranes on the Mway doing well under 30mph.

The bit about the police escort is out of date........

Dibble hasn't done escorts for quite a while now, you either do your own or get an outside contractor in.

The Highways Agency has a code of practice in place
