Allways with ash, its the only tree i have ever had barbers chair, once had one reverse barbers chair through the root plate scared the crap out of me feeling that going on under your feet then a buttress root come flying up! letter box or dog tooth all the way even on a slight leaning ash especially in winter!

Dont forget alder....risky ones aswell!

The best bit is all the cuts seemed correct..ish,

 

Well the gob was ok....but it stopped there!:lol:

Like others have said.

They should have put the gob in, then bored in behind it to create the hinge, cut away from the hinge toward the back of the trunk, leaving about a 10% hold at the back, withdraw the saw and then sever the holding timber at the back, allowing a controlled fell, and NO barbers chair. Do this for any tree with a lean or heavily weighted in the direction you want to fell it.
