Maybe it is a location thing, but all the guys I talk to round don't have a racist bone in their bodies.

Apart from that, how are you doing with the search? Remember that not all tree surgeons and forestry workers are on here, and if they are not all the time either.

Might be if you can narrow down 'lake district' a bit - Keswick to Eskdale is quite a mornings commute for example - and I'll assume you have transport to get to a base / site.

Might also be worth digging out the yellow pages and making a few direct contacts as well.

Yeah I've never had any problems with racism either despite my exotic name.

I live between Penrith and Kendal, have done some work in Carlisle recently so about 40 minutes commute is doable. I'll take what I can get really as the student life has left me relying on savings.

Outreach has never been my strong suit but I'm a solid worker when set to task. I only moved to the lakes a year ago so all my old contacts are all but useless up here, managed to make a few I'd consider friends and they've helped me get the odd day here and there.

I can do full weeks but I only really need a couple of days through the week or even weekends, got a really flexible schedule right now and thought more people would be eager to exploit that to cover holidays or weekend shifts or whatever.

Will just have to keep up the search. Thanks for all the replies. Glad we've all had a bit of a laugh.

I think the industry is just fairly slow at the minute, especially domestically, which won’t be helping you.

It will pick up, it always does.

You’ve just come across really well on here, and I think someone flexible and only after a few days a week should be very attractive to the right company.

Good luck with it mate.

Different route, agencies for rail track must be worth a shout they are always looking for staff at short notice.
