For those with several spare chains per saw, different bar lengths etc.. how do you store them?

I have a small powertool case that keeps a few that I may need on any day, should there be hidden metal etc..

In the shed I have a large plastic tub and each chain in a bag, but its a mess, can never find the one Im after.

I dont have wall space to hang them.

For the different bars, I keep them with a chain around in a spare scabbard.

Today recieved another nine to add to the collection.IMG_20250315_120259.thumb.jpg.cb5873d31b8b96aea802649086978f1f.jpg

Old Takeaway containers with lids.
Marked with length and size and a generous bit of chain oil to keep them from drying. 3 - 4 chains in each depending on size.

They can all be stacked reasonably neatly

If you want to spend some money then the chain locker is cool. If you want to spend less money Stihl do a little plastic chain box.

As I'm tight. Used take away cartons is what I store mine in. Washed first obviously as one isn't a savage.

chainlocker from gustharts around £35

Expensive, it wont hold many - enough to keep in the car but wont help with the shed storage. I'm thinking power tool cases are better. Perhaps I can put some dividers to neaten it.

Take away containers work all of 5 minutes before they get shattered or knocked over. I have a very small shed so things tend to get moved about often.

I did buy some halfords tool chests with 3 draws each, thinking a draw for 1/4 pitch and .325, another for 3/8lp and last for 3/8".

I have a few of those executive business card, notebook etc holders that nobody wants so they're free.

NEWYES Leather Zipper Conference Folder, A4, Travel Document Folder, Portfolio Travel Wallets, Personal Agenda Organizer F...

One for each chain (12" 1/4 picco, 16" 3/8 picco, 25" 3/8). Get three or four chains in each, which is enough for me. 36" 3/8 are too big for them so they're just in an A4 big jiffy bag, milling ones in the milling box. I'd have a better (probably toolboox) setup if I changed chains more often. I'm pretty good at keeping clean though.

Rotatech sell these little zip lock pouches for keeping chains in. They're marked with the chain size, and you can then store 10-15 chains in an old paint bucket.

Unfortunately, the pouches are quite expensive. But you do get a free chain inside each one
