I've had an 800 mm  Bison pickaroon for years - never leave home without it. I've broken the shaft twice over the years, just below the head- no fault of Bison , its just had a hammering. It was getting a bit short after the second break so I made a new handle from air dried ash- cleft and shaved using the tools shown,I've beefed up the shaft compared to the original . Thoroughly recommend this tool - never had any problems getting it to stick in either....

Nicely done, I make my own handles too but much cruder than what you have done.

I’ve completely ruined one after putting a grinder to it 😂😂

I started with a couple of files as some American chap recommended a chisel edge but he's wrong.

Fortunately I could get it back to close to the original as it wouldn't pick up a plasticine log! It's fine now but I may have to get something to pick up split rounds as it still doesn't like lightweight bits of wood.
