Climbing rope diameter and tennis elbow

Recommended Posts

Currently taking a pause from work due to tennis elbow / ligament pain in the forearm.

Won't be climbing for at least month from now  and only if the current treatments work which so far it seems to so that's pretty much under control.

Wondering if using a thicker diameter climbing rope could help as it may be easier to grip or will the extra friction when slack tending cancel out any benefit?

Any experience on this / feedback much appreciated.

I find the thicker the line the less strain on your grip.

More importantly though, what are you doing to treat the Tennis Elbow?

Look up the Tyler twist on YouTube and get a Flex bar for the exercise.

Trust me it works wonders.  Fixes the problem by strengthening the tendons through eccentric contraction rather than concentric contraction.

The THERABAND FlexBar improves grip strength and is a high-quality treatment for Tennis Elbow or Golfer's Elbow...

Line diameter definitely has an impact Dilz.

Mine first flared up really badly not long after I switched to Yale Blaze 11mm back in the day when I was climbing all the time.

Rich has a really good grasp (😂) of the ins and outs of TE.

I got mine sorted with extensive physio, epichondrical clasp, cortisone jabs, and changing the way I did things.

I never used a Flexbar, but they are meant to be really good.

Very interesting thread, perfect timing. I currently have forearm and elbow pain. Hoping a break over Christmas eases it!

Thanks for the suggestions @Rich Rule

No worries.  Put one of those rubber didlo looking, theraband flex bars in your stocking and you be good to go after a few weeks.
